Installing Peterson Lights with Integral Weatherproof Connectors
Many Peterson LED vehicle lights have an angled receptacle built into the rear of the housing. This receptacle is designed to accept AMP SuperSeal 1.5 Series and compatible sealed, weatherproof plugs. While this type of plug is among the very best in the industry at keeping out moisture and foreign matter, proper installation will ensure these lights provide the longest, most trouble-free service life possible. When installing these lights, the light housing should be oriented on the vehicle so that the receptacle opening faces downward. This will protect the light and wiring in two ways: 1. The housing shrouds the opening to help keep environmental liquids and debris from dropping or running down into it. 2. Material that does come into contact with the sealing surfaces will be drawn by gravity down, out and away, rather than being pulled further into the connector. It is important to always orient the receptacle opening properly when attaching the housing to the vehicle body. When doing maintenance on a vehicle, verify the orientation of the light housings whenever possible.
